Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about the AMSA Academic Mentorship Program.

Students from 200 level to 600 level are eligible to apply as mentors.

Students from 100 level to 500 level can apply as mentees.

Mentors may mentor any level below their own.

For example:

  • A 200-level student may mentor a 100-level student.
  • A 300-level student may mentor 100-level or 200-level students.

This ensures that mentors have already experienced the academic stage their mentees are currently navigating.

The number of mentees assigned to each mentor will depend on the number of applications received.

During the mentor application process, mentors will be asked to indicate the maximum number of mentees they are comfortable mentoring, and pairings will take this preference into account.

Mentors and mentees are paired based on information provided in the application forms, including:

  • Academic strengths and areas of difficulty
  • Personal goals for mentorship
  • Personal profile

The goal is to create productive and supportive mentor–mentee relationships.

Yes. Mentors who actively participate in the program will receive certificates of recognition in appreciation of their contribution to supporting fellow students.

Mentors and mentees are encouraged to communicate regularly, whether through in-person meetings or virtual check-ins. The exact frequency can be decided by each mentor–mentee pair depending on their schedules and needs.

No. Participation is completely voluntary, but mentors and mentees are encouraged to commit to the program once they apply in order to ensure meaningful engagement.

If any concerns arise during the mentorship period, participants may reach out to the Mentorship Committee, who will help address the issue or facilitate adjustments if necessary.

The program will begin after mentor and mentee applications have been reviewed and pairings have been completed. Participants will receive further information and updates once the matching process is finalized.
